What is the 10-session structural reset series?
Rolfing ® is typically applied in a series of ten sessions. Each session of the process is both a continuation of the previous one and an introduction to the next, to achieve the overall goal of resetting the client’s structure. The process is designed to uncover a structural ease and kinetic balance that is unique to each client.
SESSIONS 1-3: THE SLEEVE
The first three sessions provide a holistic introduction to Rolfing.
Session #1: Devoted to enhancing the quality of breath with work on the arms, ribcage and diaphragm. Opening is also started along the upper leg, hamstrings, neck and spine.
Session #2: Helps give the body a stable foundation by balancing the foot and muscles of the lower leg to establish support.
Session #3: Involves a “side view” for an understanding of how the head, shoulder girdle, and hips are positionally related to one another when standing under the influence of gravity.
Sessions 4-7: The Core
After the sleeve has been opened, the next 4 sessions work systematically to address the core from the bottom to the top.
Session #4: Open the inside line of the legs. The territory extends from the inside arch of the foot and up the leg, to the bottom of the pelvis.
Session #5: Balancing surface and deep abdominal muscles in their relationship to the curve of the back.
Session #6: Enlists support and movement from the legs, pelvis and lower back, with a special focus on freeing the sacrum's range of motion.
Session #7: Focuses on the neck and head, including the nose and mouth, and uses Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy techniques to work with the bones of the head.
Sessions 8-10: The integration
The final three sessions integrate individual changes with the entire body.
Sessions #8 and #9: Establishing functional and structural relationships from core to periphery. Starting from the top or bottom, depending on the client's needs, these sessions establish continuity throughout the whole body.
Session #10: Achieves a sense of total order and balance in what is known as " Uniform Brilliance." This final integrative step allows the wisdom of the Rolfing Ten Series to support the body's health for years to come.
